FLARE Wildfire Case Studies
FLARE has documented several major wildfire events using its GOES satellite-derived fire intelligence. These case studies demonstrate the platform's ability to detect, track, and analyze large wildfires in near-real time.
Available Case Studies
- 2025 Los Angeles Fires — January 2025 Palisades and Eaton fires; 23,448 and 14,021 acres respectively; $76–131 billion in estimated economic damage; over 200,000 residents evacuated.
- Talladega County Fire (2025) — November 16–17, 2025 Renfroe-area wildfire in Alabama; a case study of synthetic thermal monitoring and early detection.
- Smokehouse Creek Fire (2024) — February 2024 Texas panhandle fire, the largest recorded wildfire in Texas history at over 1 million acres. FLARE tracked the fire's explosive spread using 5-minute GOES satellite updates.
Methodology
Each case study uses GOES Band 7 (3.9 µm shortwave infrared) and Band 14 (11.2 µm longwave infrared) satellite data processed through the FLARE AI model to produce synthetic fire color composites and FireScore layers at 250–450 m resolution.
